Pakistan Flood Update #5: Insan’s Work Continues

Both the toll of the floods that began in July, and the humanitarian response continue to unfold in Pakistan. To date more than 21 million people are injured or homeless as a result of the flooding – the equivalent of about two thirds of Canada’s population. Most are still in need of urgent humanitarian aid. “The Pakistan floods the worst natural disaster the United Nations has responded to in its 65-year history. It is one of the greatest tests of global solidarity in our times,” said Mr. Ban Ki-moon, UN Secretary-General.

Insan foundation is a part of the humanitarian relief effort coordinated by the United Nations. Insan sits on one of the bodies monitoring the protection of women and children during the criss response. With funding from the Canadian International Development Agency in Pakistan, Insan is delivering essential supplies (flour, ghee, gas stoves, mattresses and other goods) to 500 families. It is also facilitating resources (beds, ambulance services) to Rural Health Centres.

Insan will use the funds raised by World Accord’s supporters to deliver emergency kits for women and children in Rajanpur, South Punjab.
